Yesterday, for my Serenity Sunday series, I posted a photograph from July 2003 of a few blades of grass with frozen dew that I discovered while on a hike on Stewart Island, which lies some 35 km south of the southern tip of New Zealand’s South Island. The responses and the comments generated by that post have been so enthusiastic that I am expanding the idea to include several more photographs from my hike on that lovely morning, in three installments. For Part 1, here are two more shots of grasses and ferns that I made within minutes of the one that I presented yesterday. Next I’ll take you into the Fern Gully…
Note: Although this was my eighth trip to New Zealand, it was my first with a digital camera. If memory serves me correctly, the camera was a Nikon Coolpix 4500.

I love the abstract feel of the second image and the wonderful blues and greens.
I was tempted to reflect a bit more light onto the dark fern, but it was the deep shade that was preserving the ice crystals and they sort of wanted to stay as they were. I’m glad that I resisted the temptation.

I was so excited that, if I hadn’t had time to use my tripod, I probably wouldn’t have been able to hold still enough for printable results.

I hope to capture some more frost/ice/snow photographs while there. Beautiful capture of the icicles on the second image & the droplets on the first! Makes me shiver!
It certainly was cold, there in the deep shade. I’m planning to go back again in December or February and will be very happy to step back into summer.
