We’ve just returned from a 10-day family excursion to the South Island. This has become a tradition for us, and the main goal—for the younger members of our family—is snow sports. But the weather gods did not grant us their favors until the last two days. We were staying near Queenstown, and while the rest went up to play in the snow, CD and I decided to take a drive on Highway 6 toward the town of Glenorchy, along the shores
of Lake Wakatipu (the accent is on the third syllable). Here are two of the images I made, but stay tuned, I plan to follow with more shortly, hopefully within the next few days.

Queenstown winter scenery is stunning when you get a fine day! Nice photos Gary.
It was so good to be back in your neck of the woods again, Liz, and thanks!
Stunning and I DO like the 2 bushes of grass in the foreground in the composition. :)
Happily, I didn’t have to go into zen contortions to line them up like that. Thanks, Vicki.
We drove this road on a sunny, warm spring day in 2019, but it looks like a different place – maybe even a different country – in your photos. Stunning!
How kind of you. This is certainly a place to be revisited, as often as possible, and at any time of year. We didn’t quite make it all the way to Glenorchy, but we hope to at our next opportunity, when we may have a bit more time.
Wonderful landscapes – and very good to hear from you, was wondering if all was ok. :)
Yes, all is well, thank you, Adrian. Struggling to catch up after lots of other life going on.
That’s quite a favor you were granted! It’s good to see you again; I’ll look forward to those other images.
It’s good to be back in the saddle again. I’ll try to follow through with more soon.
You know how much I like Lake Wakatipu. Yours may be the first pictures of it in winter that I’ve ever seen. I’m up for seeing the sequel(s) you promised. And I’ll bet Queenstown’s pleasanter without the swarms of tourists we found there in the summer.
It certainly is. I’ve been there in summer and it’s a struggle to compare the two. I should be able to bring you a few more that better highlight the snowy blessings.
Here we are scorching in our southwest desert and there you are enjoying the pleasures of snow! How wonderful for you! Beautiful images, Gary.
It would have been nice to drive to the higher places to really see the snowy glory, but we got a pretty good idea of it from down below, where only a couple of inches fell. Stay tuned.
I shall stay tuned…thank you. :)
Glad to see you back here, Gary. I figured that you and the family were traveling. These are two fine “teasers” of wonderful winter landscapes and am looking forward to more of your trip.
Thanks, Steve, it’s good to be back, and I’m working to catch up.
