Isolation Antidotes (39): Fun In the Sun

Exactly two years ago today we were enjoying a typical summer at our cabin in northern Minnesota, and the water in the lake was wonderful. Squiddy and The Elf were visiting, and their joy was a thing to remember. A part of me wishes that we could be there, as we normally would be, but—on the other hand—we are very happy indeed to be here in NZ and secure in the knowledge that it’s far safer here.

  1. We salute your safe and salubrious setting so solidly south of us.

  2. Peter Klopp says:

The photo tells the joy and fun you had on your vacation in Northern Minnesota.

    • krikitarts says:

That was not exactly a vacation–it’s normally the other half (or, rather, normally third) of our life. But yes, it does feel like a vacation when the drizzly, dreary, and dark winter sets in here.

  3. Such a fabulously fun photo, Gary, which is more than just a photo. You have the magic! :)

  4. shoreacres says:

I can feel the joy emanating from the photo. It certainly reminds me of the fun we used to have during our own Minnesota lakes vacations.

    • krikitarts says:

That special place has been a part of my life for very nearly 50 years now. Once the big dragonflies hatch and decimate the spring mosquitoes, it can be a place of–as you so aptly said–joy.

  5. Adrian Lewis says:

Wonderfully caught moment. And yes, you are far safer just now where you are. :)

  6. bluebrightly says:

The word “amazing” is overused but it sure fits here!

  7. What a happy moment caught forever, Gary. The joy of childhood…and parenthood. You are most fortunate to be in such a safe environment…in more ways than one. The level of crazy in this country grows daily.

…And grandparenthood. Squiddy has always loved the water (and will predictably take a dip at any opportunity in water of any temperature), and her Elf is developing a similar fondness, although she has yet to embrace the bracing chill of some of the opportunities she’s had. Thanks, Steve.
