Saturday Sequel (and Bestema’s Birthday)

Today is my mother’s birthday; she would have been 109. Our daughters and grand-children called her Bestema, after Norwegian tradition. On this special day, I’d like to continue the brief hike on which I invited you yesterday and take you to the end of the trail we were walking, down to the shore of Lester Lake. She visited us at the cabin many times through the years and stood with us on the very spot from which I made this photo. Happy birthday, Bestema!

    What a lovely shared memory of your Mother. Such a peaceful scene and one I hope you can return to when this is all over.
    Can your cabin look after itself for another year? Or is it something that needs annual maintenance?

    • krikitarts says:

      Good question! There’s always maintenance that needs to be seen to, and whenever I’m there it keeps me very busy indeed. But CD’s sister (and her two sons) live just four hours away, so it won’t be left completely alone by any means. Thanks, Vicki!

        I love “just four hours away”, Gary >>> we inhabit differently sized landmasses! :)

      • krikitarts says:

        When we lived in Nebraska, the cabin was 8-1/2 hours away. Yes, “only” applies to a 4-hour drive. And when I think of how long it takes for us to get there from here, the mind boggles ;-}}

  2. Lovely, treasured memories to hold close always. Such a beautiful and peaceful scene, Gary. I can imagine it really changes during the seasons and expresses such beauty and wonder. Thank you for taking us on this lovely hike.

      Thanks very much for your kind comment, Peter. We have incorporated this hike into our summer visits for as long as I can remember, and no summer would be really complete without at least one. It’s deep enough in the woods that there are no noises other than those made by the birds, insects, and frogs. It’s truly an enchanting experience.

  3. Happy Birthday, Bestema! It is a wonderful memory, Gary. You’ll always feel something special when you visit this spot. And this is a photograph befitting that memory.

    Very good to see the lake, what a calm and beautiful place. And to hear about Bestema too. Wonderful post. :)
