Counting down to the solstice

As the light dwindles down to fewer hours each day, with its minimum only a week away, I find myself inspired to bring you a photo that I made in early September and have only recently revisited to explore its possibilities in monochrome.  Autumn was then well on its way, and as we drove from Omaha to northern Minnesota, I kept my eye on this developing line of clouds.  We were fortunate that our chosen route took us upwind of it, and I was able to catch it from behind, as it were, shooting from our moving car at highway speed.  I hope to find the time to bring you another offering before the actual solstice  arrives but, if not, may this help to let you know that I’m still here and wish you all well.Browerville cloudbank 09-06-15-17

Hope you’re healing well and back outdoors some more over the festive season, Gary.

  2. Our weather at the moment whilst wet is far from mid winter. Highs of 14c predicted this week…may be higher. Here where we are no frosts as yet and garden still green and full of foliage normally long gone, it is so strong I haven’t the will to cut it back “prior to winter”!!. Best wishes

Crazy here too. We had a record high temperature with record rain a couple of days ago. Also a smidgen of snow, but it didn’t last. Not much green left, though. Dreary.

      • We are going through that season (usually November) when if it is not raining it is just very damp! Temperatures yesterday did get to 12c and now they say possibly 18c by the end of the week

Gary, I’m still here too – and looking forward to lighter days. I hope the solstice is good for you, and that you’re speedily on the mend. Adrian

I’m looking forward to the solstice–always do, as it is a magical time of year. Plan to light many candles and have a nice snifter of single malt to welcome it again. And yes, mending well, thank you, kind sir!

  4. Stunning – so dramatic in monochrome

  5. Meanderer says:

Yes, not long to the Solstice now. It has been a fairly grey December so far – but still rather beautiful. All the best to you.

  6. Those are definitely dramatic clouds, high and wide at the same time.

  7. Truels says:

    What a great cloudy sky!!
