Point & Shoot (2): Bent’s Old Fort

The second installment in my new Point & Shoot category is one that I made last November during a road trip from Nebraska to California, as our route took us through La Junta in southwestern Colorado. Our tour book recommended a stop at a Bent’s Old Fort National Historic Site. Although this wasn’t quite the kind of street shot that I envisioned when I started this line of subject matter, I used the same sort of technique. The folks in the shot are park rangers, who dress up in period costumes to add to the flavor of the reconstruction, answer visitors’ questions, and help to make everything run smoothly. Bent's rangers 3777To make this image, I stalked slowly and quietly through the rooms behind the covered area where they were lounging, eased gently through the door to the street, and made several shots without raising the camera to my eye. This one was my favorite.
