We have a small stone wall behind the house with lots of nooks and crannies, and it’s my favorite place to look for spiders. I’ve only seen a few this year, but the weather has been so nice during the last few days that, surely, some should be out and about. I sat down carefully and began a watch. Over the course of the next quarter-hour or so, my patience was rewarded by the appearance of no fewer than four—two tiny jumpers and two hunters.
My favorite shot was of this one, probably a young wolf spider (family Lycosidae), though the bright sunlight made for rather harsh lighting conditions. I estimate the leg span at about half an inch. I’ll try for a better portrait over the next few days.

He was sunbathing after a long, hard winter :).
A most worthy endeavor at this time of year. I’ve been guilty of that myself in the past few days. And it feels just great!
Excellent shot of such a small creature, Gary.
I do love to hunt the hunters, as you well know. Thanks, Vicki!
It looks like trouble to me….
Only if you’re smaller than a house fly and not very alert. Not too much to worry about, really.
Well I’m not allergic than a house fly ….
Great capture.
Thanks, Raewyn, it took a while, but the wait was worth it.
Look who’s crawling up my wall…black and hairy, very small
Steve, you amaze me once again. I’ve never heard or seen this before. Wow!
I was unsure about sharing it here…glad you liked it, Gary.
