One of the best ways to abandon all serious pressures and embrace a brief period of boundless frivolity on a glorious autumn day, in my experience, is to pay a visit to a Renaissance Festival, if one happens to be within reach. I have had the pleasure to attend three. My last of these was in Maryland, near Annapolis, back in October 2009.
It’s an amalgamation of opportunities to imagine things as they were back in the time of Shakespeare, to sample a number of culinary delicacies, and to admire (or not) the lengths to which folk will go to let their imaginative tendencies carry them into realms of which most of us only dream. And no one who has so prepared for the occasion minds being the subject of any photographer’s attention. I can’t wait for my next chance!
Jon and I go every year!
We would too, if we still had one within reach!
