Yes sir, yes sir, two bags full

While having fun with our cone flowers and a few flying furry folk yesterday, another small insect was competing with the green Agapostemon bee (see yesterday’s post) for my attention, and I was more than happy to pay it its fair share.

Saddlebags 1556I did some online research to try to identify it, and settled on, which  leads me to believe that it’s a sweat bee, belonging to the family Halticidae.

Saddlebags 1588Saddlebags 1625If anything, it was even busier than its green neighbor, and it had filled its leg pouches with pollen to what appeared to be the point of overflowing, giving the impression that it was carrying around stuffed yellow saddlebags.

Great shots. You’ve got very good eyesight. Wish my close vision was as good.
(I’ve bookmarked just in case I need a good guide too, thank you).

Actually, I’ve got very good eyesight in only one eye now…but that’s another story. If you’d like to delve further into insect and spider ID, I’d be happy to send you a few more links.

Not spiders Gary. I had to unfollow one of my favourite English blogs due to the fearsome looking spider macros, but I am keen on other insects especially bees and butterflies.

Beautiful stuff, Gary – I especially like the 3rd down. Adrian
