On this new Mother’s Day, I’d like to pay tribute to three who have been, in every way, an absolutely integral part of my life —my own mother, the mother of my children, and the mother of our granddaughter. I am more grateful than I can say that we have had the opportunity to share our lives in such a special way.
At nine weeks of age, I was apparently starting to get tired of all the attention that is the lot of the first-born. (Photographer unknown)
In May 2008, at the age of 97, my mom was still able to go for a short walk out of doors. This was one of her favorite photos. (Selfie; camera hanging from a branch, timer)
December 2012. CD is fond of a German custom of walking barefoot in dew and snow. It takes not only serious stamina, but a definite sense of humor—which she has.
Squiddy and The Elf both love playing anywhere near water. This was in New Zealand, just a little over two months ago.
And so, I’m sending out my warmest wishes for all of our mothers, everywhere!
