Mother’s Day memories

On this new Mother’s Day, I’d like to pay tribute to three who have been, in every way, an absolutely integral part of my life —my own mother, the mother of my children, and the mother of our granddaughter. I am more grateful than I can say that we have had the opportunity to share our lives in such a special way.

Dad, Mom, 9-week GaryAt nine weeks of age, I was apparently starting to get tired of all the attention that is the lot of the first-born. (Photographer unknown)

May 2008In May 2008, at the age of 97, my mom was still able to go for a short walk out of doors.  This was one of her favorite photos.  (Selfie; camera hanging from a branch, timer)

SnowStepping, Dec 2012December 2012. CD is fond of a German custom of walking barefoot in dew and snow. It takes not only serious stamina, but a definite sense of humor—which she has.

Squiddy-Elf 8159Squiddy and The Elf both love playing anywhere near water.  This was in New Zealand, just a little over two months ago.

And so, I’m sending out my warmest wishes for all of our mothers, everywhere!

I’m so glad you liked them! We had an absolutely beautiful day for it–until evening, that is, when the big storm came through. We had about two inches of rain and heard a report that a tornado may have touched down, briefly, about nine miles away.

Gary, this is an absolutely wonderful series of family portraits. I like them all very much – but for both poignance and intrepid photography (camera hanging from a branch!) my favourite must be you and your mum – and for a living, dynamic, action portrait, CD barefoot. Also, its very good to see people you’ve frequently alluded to. Good stuff! Adrian

It’s great to have the opportunity to share loved ones like this. Of course, one doesn’t really need to wait for such an opportunity–as you’ve freely demonstrated too–but it helps to give the family feeling a friendly nudge.
