Smoky silhouettes

One leg of our recent road trip took us through the lovely Smoky Mountains National Park in western North Carolina.  We didn’t have time for more than a few brief stops, but I made this shot looking west (more or less) from a particularly-nice vantage point.  I hope to be able to explore this area much more thoroughly some day.

Fascinated by the colors, especially that of the lichen being picked up in the trees. I’d paint a room to match this photo! (That’s a high compliment.)

I fell in love with the rolling hills in this part of the country the first time I was old enough to appreciate their beauty. Actually, I was born only about 55 miles/90 km from here. We moved to Michigan when I was only 6 weeks old, but the Appalachians have long had a special place in my heart.
