Silly Saturday: The bat in the sycamore

Three weeks ago today I was standing under one of our two sycamore trees, gazing up at their magnificent leaves catching the early-afternoon sun.  Just for fun, I put my telephoto (70-300) lens on and had a look around through it to see what details there might be, just waiting to be discovered by a clever observer.  And look what I found!

  1. Frank Wallace says:

It looks like the Commissioner is flashing the “Bat Signal”!

    • krikitarts says:

Exactly! Did the Commissioner actually ever have a name? Not that it matters, but a green projection would have been a very nice touch! Too bad I’m a couple of decades behind in providing the suggestion…

      • Frank Wallace says:

Haha, yes it was Commissioner Gordon. I can’t imagine why I remember that.

      • krikitarts says:

Commissioner Gordon–but of course! To quote Frederick Loewe (from Gigi), “Ah, yes! I remember it well!” Perhaps that name was chosen because he would, um, flash the bat signal onto the (hopefully-available) clouds to summon the Caped Crusader whenever they needed him…

  2. Brilliant!! What a great find :).

  3. Helen Cherry says:

I just LOVE this.. so well spotted Gary

  4. MikeP says:

  5. Finn Holding says:

    “Holy leaf shadows Batman!”

  6. Silly but fun and we all need a laugh at times!

  7. Adrian Lewis says:

Never neglect that 70-300, Gary – one of life’s priceless treasures! Nice image. Adrian

I can hardly ever be caught in the field without that lens. I am constantly amazed at the current level of optical technology that is available, and this one is a wonder!

  8. Swati Singh says:

Signal to the Batman ? :P
    Regards :)

  9. Meanderer says:

Oh, that’s clever and fun. I love it!

    • krikitarts says:

Fun is what it’s all about. It’s far too easy to get too serious and not see the frivolity that’s available, if we’d just make the time to look a little deeper (or, possibly, a little shallower)!
