Archives (2): Memorial Day 2013

For my Memorial Day offering, I’ve delved back into my archives and found a photo that my mom probably shot, of me and my dad, when I was only three weeks old.  My dad, who served as a Captain in the Coast Guard Medical Corps, passed away in 1990.

Thanks for sharing Gary. A lot of pride. Your dad served family and country so proudly. Loved my Uncle Son.

  2. A tribute well appreciated.

Gary, you’ve done it again! What a fantastic photo – and I very much like the processing too – do I detect SEP2 here? Very good stuff! Adrian

Afraid not this time, Adrian. I darkened it slightly and cleaned up some scratches with PS6 and put the border on with ColorEfex; otherwise the photo is exactly as I scanned it. I, too, like this one very much, and I’m grateful that they were using a camera back then and saving the results. It was probably a Kodak fold-up one with a bellows and one of those prism viewfinders and (I think) 640 film. I have it carefully stored in a box somewhere, but don’t have the time to dig it out now to give you a model number. Unless you’d really like to know…

  4. Awwww, you were such a cute baby :). What a wonderful photo to have!

Such a beautiful photo and I can’t help but notice your Dad’s lovely long fingers. Was he the creative, artistic type? Your Mum looks like she was a good photographer.

I always thought that about his hands, too. Not a visual artist, but a very skilled surgeon. Thanks, Vicki!
