Spring back (10)

Here we go again.  See-saw spring.  It snowed again today.  So here’s another flashback to springs past.  I was hoping I wouldn’t have to post another one, but there it is, and I must, after all.  This one takes us back three years, to one of my favorite retreats while I was living alone and away from my family, in the Washington, DC area—Whiteoak (or White Oak, depending on the source of reference) Canyon, near the tiny town of Syria, Virginia, close to Old Rag Mountain.  Here are three offerings:  White Oak Creek, one of the first trilliums, and the blossoming Redbuds near the Lower Falls.

  1. Really like the middle flower, the idea of new bloom amongst winter’s waning barrenness.

Thanks very much. I remember how much I had been hoping to find some trilliums and how delighted I was when I saw this one. It was on a very steep and slippery slope though, and managing the tripod for the shot I wanted was quite another exercise in patience.

  2. Storms forecast today…Hey Ho

  3. We keep getting more snow too, Gary. I would love to be there right now – your photos paint a beautiful picture. Can we go, can we go???

My goodness me – will Spring every truly get to you………….

Love that first image. Makes me feel as though I am walking down the creekside as well. Looks like a magical area for a hike.

  5. So beautiful! Nature power!

  6. Beautiful photographs, Gary. You’re being so patient. :-)

The cold will pass. The cold will pass. The warmth will come. The warmth will come. I will remain patient. I will remain patient. I will try to remain patient. It will try my patience.

  7. Wonderful scenery. I think we have one more bout of snow on the horizon and then Spring will come…hopefully :-)

Yeah, right–thanks for the optimism, Dan. I’m finished with the “one more bout” philosophy, and am ready to wait until July, if necessary, to feel confident that the warm weather has finally arrived to stay. I sure hope it will have by then!
