As September drew to a close, the pageant of pigments (mostly phycoerythrins and anthocyanins, as I recall from my botany classes), approached its peak. Tom and Ron were due to arrive later in the day to start our musical marathon, and I was quite preoccupied with last-minute preparations (including making a large pot of chili), but I took time out for another visit to the nearby marsh to make a series of shots to turn into a panorama. (There’s a lot of detail here, which you will be able to see much better if you click on the photo.)
On my way back from a grocery shopping run, I took a detour through the Paul Bunyan State Forest and made a few stops along the way before returning and getting back to work.
Hey, great minds think alike!! The red leaf looks just like a photo I posted the other day :). I love the fuzzy look to the ground cover underneath. I also love the stand of birch trees. They are so bold and tall and straight. Beautiful captures Gary!!
Yours was beautiful too, Cindy. Yup, I love that ground cover, too, like green fireworks.
Thanks Gary :)
All beautiful photos, but I really love that second photo the most. Gorgeous color.
I found that hillside a number of years ago and I keep going back in autumn. It’s always spectacular and always different from the year(s) before.
The second & the last photo are deffo my fav – so beautiful captured! :)
Thanks, Frauke! I remember many a lovely autumn in Germany, too, but they were usually quite a bit more somber–which was just fine, as well!
Well you certainly have the autumnal colours now and no doubt will get even richer. Ours are for the most part still some way off…..apart from the odd tree that has changed the majority are waiting for a good frost!
It’s really amazing how much things can change from day to day. This actually didn’t last very long, I’m afraid–but it sure was nice while it did!
I’m a huge fan of the panorama shot–so much color across such a wide swath. Wow!
Thanks very much, Mike–you’re the first to comment on that, and I’m dellighted that you like it so much!
Beautiful…every last one of them :)
Thanks, Suzanne!
Georgous color. Love Fall!
Thanks, Dan, I didn’t find any fascinating relic buildings to accent them with this year–maybe next?
Excellent images, Gary, especially the 2nd one down – I love the mix of the glorious colours and those white tree trunks! Adrian
That really is a special spot, and the colors vary so much from year to year. This was a particulaly good one!
Great shots all, Gary. Especially the first and last, and you’re dead right about the detail in the panorama shot, I clicked on it and It looks superb!
Thank you once again, Finn. I’m delighted that you like the panorama. It takes a lot of extra effort, but it’s well worth it.
I’m drooling over that stand of birch trees! I’m always on the lookout for the perfect stand to photograph. So far it has been very elusive.
You must be a fellow Ansel Adams disciple, Jeff. There is something so very special about a grove of pristine paperbark birch. It’s like they were imported by melancholy aliens from another planet to bring a sense of serenity into a chaotic exploration.
