Sun and snow on the sycamore

It’s been quite a while since I published two posts in the same day, but I realize that I’ve been posting a lot of older work recently, and we had a surprise snowfall yesterday.  It only lasted about half an hour, but it was one of those with enormous, fluffy flakes that stick to everything.  Shortly after it stopped, the skies cleared and the sun came out, dazzling us with its intensity on the fresh snow and on the amazing bark of our favorite sycamore just outside our front window.

As I went out for a closer look, I expanded my area of appreciation to one of our river birches and the little hawthorn that grows next to our driveway.  There was practically no breeze, so most of it stayed on the branches and in the niches in the birch bark for a little while.  Love it when that happens!

Thanks, Wolke, I intentionally underexposed it, because I was shooting almost directly into the sun and wanted the details in the snow crystals to remain visible, and that made it a little more dramatic, too.

The warmth of the light was what first attracted my attention, and the closer I looked, the better the bark looked. I’ve always loved sycamore bark, and it really seemed to glow. Thanks a lot for your comment!
