Miscanthus moment

There was a slight, subtle frost this morning.  While I was out savoring the fine, abstract patterns an opportunity like this provides, the temperature rose steadily, so that soon after I started, the tiny frost crystals turned to water droplets, then rather quickly evaporated.  As the breeze began to stir, however, one of my favorite plants in the garden, a Miscanthus sinensis, caught my attention, backlit by the rising sun against the backdrop of a deep-green juniper bush.  A pin oak leaf had taken up a temporarily perch in one of the Miscanthus’s feathery plumes, and I was able to catch it between puffs of the steadily-increasing breeze before it was dislodged to fall and join its brothers in the litter below.
