Warm wishes for the cold season, Part 2

I had some problems yesterday uploading the photos I wanted to post, reflecting back on warmer times earlier in the year, and so here is the second set of small fair-weather fauna.  One more set will follow shortly.

Nice pics…. is the top one a Cicadia? We have them in the summer…. sooo loud. When I was in Greece they were even louder!!! Feeling warm already, even though winter is finally turning colder.

Yup–right on. I believe it’s a 17-year cicada. I was moving some small landscaping rocks (on June 17) and this one was doing whatever they do in its little burrow under the stone. One doesn’t often see the immature ones at this time of year. It still had quite a bit of development to go through: Hatching day was August 15 (there’s an emerging adult imago in the Part 3 post).
