Places Remembered: Stewart Island, Part 1b

This is the second in my recall of my first trip to Stewart Island (well, actually the third, since I offered the first two days ago as part of my Serenity Sunday series.  For today’s entries, the sun has risen to the point that most of the amazing dew and frost have melted; however, gentle gray clouds are blanketing nearly all of the sky, forming an immense softbox that evenly illuminates the lush and lovely flora of the Fern Gully…

    This place has a real primeval feel to it, I can imagine a velociraptor emerging from between the cycads!

    It’s easy (and quite fun) to let your imagination run free when exploring the wilder places like this–but the most dangerous critter you’re likely to encounter is a mosquito. There are not even any snakes (anywhere in the whole country)! It’s one of the gentlest gems that I know of.
